Two RAF officer cadets at Cranwell, Lincolnshire, who died after a climbing accident in Debyshire were named as Flight Cadet Colin John Capes, aged 19, of Cheveley, near Newmarket, and Geoffrey Daniel Gilbert Matthews, of Tenterden, Kent. They were found unconscious and roped together at Stanage Edge Derbyshire on 22 June 1966.Info

Flight Cadet Hugh Leslie James Bertram was killed whilst flying solo in an Avro504N at Fulbeck.
Evidence case lead to the conclusion that Bertram, a promising pupil in his first term, stalled his aeroplane either through inattention or in a deliberate attempt to execute a manoeuvre for which he had not the height, being well below the altitude at which aerobatics are permitted.
