CGW updateJul2016

Nos 81 & 82 entries were the last two entries to arrive at Cranwell when there were only three sqns (A, B & C). During 1960 the fourth wing was built as D Sqn so when 81 moved up the College building after the first year some of the entry transferred to D Sqn.

81 Entry was the first entry with the option of taking a degree. Moreover, 81 Entry pilots were the first entry to fly Jet Provosts. So far so good. For those pilots destined to fly jet aircraft we were supposed to be the first JP & Gnat entry. However, when they arrived at Valley for  advanced training the Gnats had not arrived so 81 became the last Cranwell entry to fly Vampires and therefore the only Cranwell entry to train on Jet Provosts & Vampires.
